Summer update – July 2010

Hello friends!
The season of pool parties, cold longnecks, tubing down the river, watermelon, roasting ears and BBQ has arrived. The Derailers are prepared. We have our iceboxes, bug dope and sunscreen (some stronger than others) ready to go. There are a lot of fun events coming up that I want to make you aware of, so that y’all can do your summertime partying with us.

On Saturday July 31, we’ll be returning to Gruene Hall in Gruene (New Braunfels) Texas. Gruene Hall is where much of our new upcoming live record was recorded. There is a good reason why we decided to record there – that place is ALWAYS a blowout. Always a party. Fun times. The Grist Mill restaurant next door is a great place to eat, too. I’ve heard about a bunch of Austin folks who are going to go tube the river during the day, eat supper at the Grist Mill and then hang with us at the show. Wax my tube, that sounds like a perfect day to me!

On Friday August 6, we’ll be doing our thing at the Granada Theater in Dallas. The Granada is a big old theater that has been lovingly restored in recent years. It’s a very cool venue, and a fun place to see a band perform. The folks at the Granada are excited for this show, and we are too. We have a lot of DFW-area friends and we’re counting on seeing each and every one of you there.

On Sunday August 22, The Derailers will be proud to perform in the Texas Music Festival in Salado. This is a big annual fest. A person can buy tickets for multiple days, and I suggest it. Our good buddies The Doug Moreland Show and Eleven Hundred Springs will also be on the fest. So will Pauline Reese, Hayes Carll, Bob Schneider, Mingo Fishtrap, and many more. It’s a great way to see a lot of great bands in one place in a short period of time.

On Tuesday August 24, we’ll be having a kind of music festival in miniature at Threadgill’s World Headquarters in South Austin. Our pals The Doug Moreland Show and Two Tons of Steel will also be on the bill that night. If you haven’t been to a show at Threadgill’s yet, you should make a point of it. It might be the perfect outdoor venue. You fill up on the fantastic food inside the restaurant, and then you wander out under the stars for the show. Good times!

More information for all of these shows (and others!) can be found in the “datebook” section of Derailers.com. We have some exciting shows and a record release coming up in the fall, so stay tuned for those as well.
