Augsberg etc. 06.30.15

As a baptized and confirmed LCMS Lutheran (with a couple years of parochial school) I had heard of the Diet of Augsberg and the Augsberg Confession. I’m not sure I can properly recount the story, but suffice to say Augsberg played a big role in Luther’s break from the Roman Catholic Church. The reformation happened (in part) right here. On Tuesday we had breakfast, lolly gagged a lot, and visited the ... Read more >

06.29.15 Neuschwanstein Castle

At the gift shop.   As I said, the sleep schedule is all off. Sunday night we stayed late at the Four Corners. We moved to a hotel practically next-door to the club. I stayed up all night, and at at some point in the wee hours I went to the hotel lobby to write some blog. When I finished that I went for a long walk. Breakfast at the new hotel ... Read more >

06.28.15 Landsberg Germany

On Sunday we woke up in a hotel located in a nearby village. Breakfast at the hotel was less than we were used to in Switzerland, but still good. Our sleep schedules are pretty messed up, but there are two good things about that: 1. We have no real commitments or deadlines to meet; 2. Being in the breakfast buffet at 6am is no problem. You won’t often find us ... Read more >

06.27.15 The Derailers on a train?!?

We rode on at least 4 buses today. Some were nice (thanks boss!) after arriving in Augsberg, our friend Bill met us at the station and drove is all to his club – The Four Corners – in Untermeitingen, an hour or so West of Munich (which I just love to call “Munchen” because I plan to do some munchin’ on some pretzels and sausage! We did our sound check and ... Read more >

06.26.15 Interlaken Switzerland

The Mavericks’ Raul Malo.         June 26 What a beautiful place!  We had no trouble getting up early enough to make it to the gigantic breakfast at the hotel provided.  My only complaint – the cheese had holes in it! After breakfast Bracken and I did some shopping and a little sightseeing. One of Interlaken’s biggest industries is tourism. They really do it up. We watched para-sailers gliding off the mountains high overhead all ... Read more >

06.25.15 Switzerland!

06.25.15 We left Austin Texas with a (mercifully) non-stop flight to London. Heathrow Airport kept our departure gate a secret from us until just before loading, but we found a sympathetic airline employee who helpfully (and correctly) predicted the number for us – A11. We made a short flight to Zurich, Switzerland and then rode in a van for a couple hours to beautiful Interlaken Switzerland. We are in the Swiss Alps, ... Read more >

10.25.14 Home!

When I say “home” I mean the Broken Spoke, South Austin Texas – our “natural habitat”. After tons and tons of driving through Oklahoma and Texas, it was wonderful (and hot) to be in Austin again. The show at the Spoke was a flat-out, get-down party as always. Where do they find all those pretty girls? In November, the Spoke is turning 50. They are having special celebrations 10.31 – 11.08. ... Read more >
